Design
Epiphany Eyewear is designed with a modern take on the classic thick-framed style. The updated design is both current and timeless. Capture interest and turn heads when you walk by wearing the most clean-lined, advanced pair of smart-glasses on the market. The power of technology finally meets the refinement of stylish design with Epiphany Eyewear.
These unique glasses are an original design by master designer David Meisenholder, whose portfolio includes work for celebrities such as Lady Gaga, for whom he designed the GL-20 video glasses. David and the Epiphany team have brought the same painstaking attention to detail to your video-sharing glasses, poring over every contour for the best possible fit, precision, and shape. Every inch of the clean, sleek aesthetic of Epiphany Eyewear's design marries form with incredibly advanced function.
Operation is elegantly simple. Slide your right finger across the smooth soft-touch side until you feel the tactile Epiphany Eyewear button, and gently press against your temple to turn the computer on. To instantly activate the tinting of your "electric-powered" sunglasses, simply push the front-left-frame button. Capture your experience and the world around you in HD video -- and do it in style.
Trends come and go, but good design lasts forever. Feel empowered wearing Epiphany Eyewear - you are sporting the world's most advanced glasses, designed in an iconic classic style. Epiphany Eyewear is destined not only to outlast trends, but to redefine them.

Frames
Epiphany Eyewear’s frames are built using a new, incredibly high-quality and versatile state-ofthe-art "shape-memory" nylon material that is often referred to as "plastic titanium" in the eyewear industry. This beautiful organic material is a thermoplastic that is both soft yet strong; it is resistant to breaking, keeps its shape under extreme conditions, doesn't fade from sun exposure and yet is still incredibly comfortable and light-weight, being up to 20% lighter than other eyewear materials. Plastic titanium is so new on the market, most other eyeglass manufacturers have not yet discovered its potential. Epiphany Eyewear’s incredibly light weight and flexibility make for a perfect pair of glasses you will wear every day without worrying about durability. The frames’ superior material is high-temperature resistant, to retain its shape, and its resistance to fading from UV exposure ensures a long-lasting color and finish.
Your frames also feature the highest quality spring-loaded hinges, to fit comfortably on the vast majority of various face shapes and sizes. The spring-loaded hinges add a level of worry-free security, comfortably hugging your face with a soft contour above your ears to always fit well and stay with you even through life's most adventurous moments.
Slide your right finger across the smooth soft-touch side until you feel the tactile Epiphany Eyewear button, and gently press against your temple to turn the computer on. Gently push the front-left-frame button to instantly activate the tinting of your "electric-powered" sunglasses. Capture your experience in HD video, knowing that you're wearing one of the highest quality designer frames in the world.

Optics
The Epiphany Eyewear layered lenses and optics are an impressive feat of technology all by themselves. These special lens optics are made of layered “active smart lenses” and are equipped with thin layers of conductive technology to produce the transcendent “electrically activated” sunglasses. With a quick press of the sunglass button, the glasses instantly send a signal to the lenses, transitioning between light and dark tint in the blink of an eye! Instantly turn your sunglass lenses “on” and show everyone around you that these glasses are much more than meets the eye.
Epiphany Eyewear’s on-board HD camera features advanced optics technology with an unprecedented quality and wide-angle field of view -- wider than any smartphone camera on the market. These unique optics are able to record and stream video of your world as you actually experience it. When people watch the first-person point-of-view videos from the Epiphany glasses, they feel “as if they were there” – thanks to the superior lens optics contained in the HD camera inside of the glasses.
Epiphany Eyewear’s eyeglass optics are also designed to protect your eyes better than any other pair of sunglasses on the market. They contain multiple layers of clarity-enhancing protective coatings to block glare and harmful rays, allowing only safe wavelengths of light into your eyes for the clearest possible vision. The lenses’ shatter resistance and remarkably light weight let you take your pair with you on the go. Your eyes are protected from all wavelengths of harmful UV rays, and your lenses’ multiple layers of AR (anti-reflective) coatings reduce unwanted reflections. Vertical polarizers protect from harmful bounced light in the form of glare, such as road glare, snow glare, and water glare, to increase safety and clarity of vision for car drivers, snowboarders, sailors, and all other real-life action heroes wearing Epiphany Eyewear.
A lens-fitting groove on the inside of the glasses lets your optometrist install prescription lenses, and meets the lens-mounting standards used in the eyewear industry by professional lens-cutting labs. Epiphany supports a base 2 curve prescription lens up to (+) 2 and (-) infinity (in diopters). With it video-sharing technology, “electronically-powered sunglass” feature, and option to fit prescription lenses, Epiphany Eyewear is designed to be the only pair of glasses you’ll ever need.
In total, the Epiphany Eyewear optics system contains over eleven (11) advanced distinct and surprisingly thin layers that all protect your eyes from harm. Fours layers of AR anti-reflective coating complement another four layers of UV protection and the two layers of polarizers sandwich around a layer of conductive film and optically transparent liquid crystal; combined together these surprisingly thin and powerful (11) eleven layers provide a higher quality, tighter control, enhanced clarity and better protection for your eyes than any other sunglasses in the world.

Technology
Epiphany Eyewear’s glasses are “smart” because inside of each is a powerful mobile computer, plus a sophisticated HD digital video camera with simple and intuitive one-button tactile video recording control. Only a few years ago, fitting this much computing power in such a compact form was unimaginable. Epiphany Eyewear contains technology that in the past would have required three separate devices: a clunky digital camcorder, a laptop computer and an external hard drive. Our glasses contain all of this, while integrating nicely with the web and software for the mobile smartphone ecosystem.
The lens technology allows you to instantly control the darkness of the sunglasses, turning them to light or dark tinting. Just tap the accented button found on the front left corner of the eyewear frames to instantly flip on the high-tech shades. Press the button again and return to the light tinting of polarized lenses.
To start recording a point-of-view video, simply press the “easy-feel” tactile-touch Epiphany Eyewear logo that is on the right temple. The computer inside the glasses turns on and boots up. A tiny blue indicator light will blink in your peripheral vision, letting you know the glasses are on and are currently recording. To finish recording, simply press the button once more, and the indicator light will disappear.
It may seem incredible that so much computing technology can fit inside of the temple of Epiphany Eyewear’s stylish frames -- but this is just the beginning. The glasses can record and stream HD video and audio, and can be configured to contain an impressive amount of onboard storage (up to 32GB). The glasses also contain a powerful and long-lasting rechargeable lithium ion battery similar in structure to the batteries used in modern electric vehicles. To recharge your glasses, and to transfer data, simply plug in using the special tiny built in micro-USB plug found on the bottom of the right side of the glasses temple.
Plug your glasses into your laptop, desktop or a compatible Epiphany-qualified phone or tablet to view and share the videos from the YouGen.TV application, while charging the glasses at faster than real time.
With a compatible device or tablet running the YouGen.TV app, you can stream your experience directly onto the web -- even as a “live-stream” video post directly onto your Facebook wall. YouGen.TV is the only application in the world that lets you live-stream your point-of-view onto Facebook, so your friends can hang out with you even when they aren't there!
As Mark Zuckerberg recently stated, “The very definition of what a computer is, and what our relationship with it should be, hasn't been set for the majority of the world… and when it is, I think a lot of that definition is going to be around people first. So we're about to see the most empowered generation of people in history.” Epiphany Eyewear is proud to be part of that empowerment.

Apps
Through our app platform called YouGen.TV, your glasses can integrate with the social ecosystem through apps for your glasses -- apps that take advantage of the power of open sharing such as Facebook and Twitter.
The YouGen Editor lets you quickly and intuitively cut together various separate clips of your life to tell one cohesive story, while the YouGen+Soundcloud app lets you add vibrant and exciting soundtracks to your life. There are apps for the YouGen website, and apps that can run locally to access data and video on the glasses as it is being recorded.
Apps must be authorized by the user, and can then access recorded videos, post new edits of videos, receive live frames from a livestream, or display a time-synced embedded UI fragment on the YouGen.TV player page. These powerful capabilities of the YouGen.TV platform, together with developers’ creativity, create bold possibilities for new interactions and experiences using social POV video.
Anyone can now become an app developer for Epiphany Eyewear by emailing us at dev@yougen.tv today. We're still accepting more applications for app developers that want to try out writing apps for our glasses using Epiphany Eyewear and one of the qualified mobile devices.

- How long have you been working on Epiphany Eyewear?
Started working May 2011, and filed our first patent. Unofficially started the company (Vergence Labs) in Sept 2011. Incorporated in Dec 2011.
- What is your founding story?
The founders Erick Miller and Jon Rodriguez both started working on Epiphany’s technology while still in school, Erick for an MBA at UCLA and NUS, and Jon for a Computer Science thesis at Stanford University. Erick set out to build a company that would create the first fully functional computer inside of glasses, with a software platform for reality. Jon had an epiphany that they could make a volumetric display that perfectly matches reality. They met through social media - a tweet from Hacker News, to be precise - and decided to combine their visions and create Epiphany Eyewear together.
- Can Epiphany Eyewear have prescription lenses?
Yes, your optometrist can install any prescription lens with a Nominal Base Curve of 2 diopters. This can accommodate most prescriptions.
- How are you different from Google Glass?
Glass appears to have a few more “electronics features” and we have more “eyewear features”.
Epiphany Eyewear is designed with plastic titanium frame material to be both comfortable and durable. Epiphany has incredible electric powered sunglasses. Overall, Epiphany has an emphasis on design, fit, & feel, and works very hard to blend nicely with your own personal sense of style.
Summary:
Glass: Consumer electronics for your face.
Epiphany: Great designer glasses, that happen to contain an incredibly powerful social computer.

No! At the time, not even the X Lab was public and Sergey wasn't even leading it yet. We started on this even before Google bought Motorola.
- Is there more than one way to control the glasses?
There is one button. We firmly believe that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. You can control some aspects of video streaming, sharing and photos from the app.

Not in the current product, but the computer does show you a little blinking LED indicator light in your lens, and we are exploring the user experience for a more rich display in the next version.
- What resolution of video is recorded?
720p HD.
- Do the glasses also record audio?
Yes.
- How many hours does the storage last?
8GB model: Approximately 2 hours. 16GB model: About 4 hours. 32GB model: About 8 full hours.
- How many hours does the battery last?
Depending on usage, the power can last all day when combined with a tablet and frequently uploading data. When turned on and recording straight, it lasts between 1 - 2 hours, depending on usage.
- How do you address privacy concerns? Can other people tell if you are recording?
There is a subtle blinking-blue indicator light. We are branding our product as glasses that have a computer inside and terrific wide-angle HD camera optics. We expect people to record POV experiences at their own discretion and to respect others' privacy.
- What information do you see when you wear the glasses?
You see indicator lights in your right-side peripheral vision on the glasses lense that gives you the status of the onboard computer: While the glasses are recording, the light is blinking blue. While the glasses are live streaming, the light is blinking purple.
- When are the glasses being shipped?
We are very close to announcing an exact ship date, but you can be assured we are currently manufacturing and will ship your glasses imminently, with an anticipated timeframe of late Summer 2013.
- How will I look in the glasses?
You will look amazing. No matter your head size, the design includes impressive spring hinges that keep the glasses comfortably fit to your face. Combined with a unique aesthetic take on popular unisex designs, there has yet to be a person that doesn't look great in these.
